The PlayStation "Gold" edition is one of the most exclusive versions ever produced by Sony. Approximately 100 units were manufactured in 1997 for a very specific purpose: to serve as VIP invitations for Sony's official party during that year's E3 expo. The console features a metallic gold finish across its entire shell. The most unique detail is that, upon opening the disc lid, guests would find a printed cardboard disc that functioned as the physical entry pass for the event. Having been distributed exclusively to executives, press, and industry personalities, its availability to the general public is practically non-existent.
