10 Million Gold

Unlike other limited editions, the "10 Million Gold" was not a commercial promotion. Sony manufactured a single, unique unit on November 30, 1996, to commemorate the exact 10,000,000th console to roll off the production line. This original unit, featuring a high-gloss gold finish, remains in Sony's custody (it has been spotted at exhibits such as Sony Square in New York). Additionally, an extremely small run (estimated at fewer than 10 units) was produced for top executives and key business partners. A similar gold variant was distributed as a VIP invitation for E3 1997, but the authentic "10 Million" unit is distinguished by its commemorative plaque.
